Here I will be sharing my experiences with mission trips, organizations I have volunteered with and some of my day to day trying to pursue faith, hope and love (1 Corinthians 13:13). Happy to answer questions and hopefully inspire others to do good – sharing their talents, treasure and time with this world.
*Children Waiting Everywhere* empowering our brothers and sisters around the globe through health, education and self-employment.
MY EXPERIENCE: I have volunteered with this organization for 4 years now and have total confidence sharing that CWE is 100% volunteer and 100% of YOUR donation goes towards the project communicated.
Through CWE, I partnered with a master seamstress in Kenya – Esther Akoth – to create a sustainable life for herself by owning her own clothing shop. I designed 10 fashion pieces, Esther created the outfits and we auctioned off her clothing in Ann Arbor, MI at Night For A Star! We enjoyed an evening of fashion, food and friends. 100% of the proceeds from her clothing, ticket sales and raffle went towards buying Esther’s shop. Forever grateful to our presenting sponsor, Pretzel Bell for donating venue + food and local women entrepreneurs// AMAZING GIRL BOSSES for empowering Esther to also achieve her dream: Sofi Stella Boutique, The Gown Shop, Verbena, BASH Events, SkyLife Technology & First Federal Bank along with many other generous individuals!
For those interested in a mission trip or special project in Uganda or Kenya… Naomi is an expert and I would love to connect you with her!
*Big Brothers Big Sisters* providing children facing adversity with strong one-on-one mentorship.
MY EXPERIENCE: I became a big sis/mentor to my little, Harmoney in 2015! Big Brothers Big Sisters interviews you then takes 2 weeks to match you with your little. Because Harmoney and I have both suffered loss, they matched us together to help cope/heal. Harmoney and I started off by seeing each other once a month (which is encouraged by the program) but once I moved to Ann Arbor my schedule changed and today, we see each other every couple months, talk via phone or Messenger every few weeks and this relationship works for us! We have enjoyed activities such as Imagination Station, Cedar Point, the Toledo Zoo, Big Brother Big Sisters picnics and holiday parties and simply doing homework or grabbing a bite to eat! Although there are lots of UPS (and tons of fun!) there are some things you should know. 1. Quarterly check in’s which includes some paperwork that is mandatory. 2. Some uncomfortable moments which could relate to behavioral issues or learning your boundaries with your little and their families. However… OVERALL, my experience has been very rewarding seeing Harmoney grow! We continue to learn from each other every time we get together! Relationships have the power to transform lives for the better and I know my life has changed for the better with Harmoney in it.
I personally met with the CEO of the BBBS Northwestern Chapter, Johnny Mickler and was inspired by his story and leadership for this program. If you or anyone you know may be interested in learning more about becoming a mentor, I am happy to connect with you Johnny or with the Toledo chapter!
